The Critical Few Objectives page is the execution layer that sits after Weakness Resolution and Impact Charters. Once a weakness has been identified, prioritized, and scoped, this screen is where a supervisor turns that work into active objectives for a team member. It answers the practical questions leadership always reaches next: Who owns this? What does success look like? When is it due? How far along is it? And how does it fit with everything else this person is already carrying?

The screen is built for supervisory decision-making. The employee list stays on the left, the objective you are creating or updating stays in the middle, and the employee's historical context stays visible on the right. That design matters. It means the supervisor does not have to leave the page to check performance history, workload, tracked weaknesses, or overdue work before publishing a new objective.

How CFOs connect the weakness-resolution workflow to live, owned execution.

1. Where CFOs fit in the workflow

In the Good to Growing Framework, CFOs are the final handoff from planning into execution. Evaluation identifies the business's strengths and weaknesses. Weakness Resolution gathers what needs attention. Impact Charters define the project. CFOs then break that project into the few pieces of work that specific people must actually carry. That is what turns a strategic idea into movement.

This is why the page should not be treated as a general task list. A CFO is not meant to capture every possible action. It is meant to capture the few objectives that really matter for the current period. When supervisors keep this discipline, the page stays useful. When they overload it, focus disappears and accountability gets diluted.

2. Page anatomy: how the Team CFOs workspace is organized

The Team CFOs workspace keeps member selection on the left, active CFO work in the center, and historical context on the right.

The page is intentionally split into three working zones. Across the top, the supervisor works inside Team CFOs, with adjacent navigation for Evaluations, Team Dashboard, and Capacity Dashboard. Inside the Team CFOs area, the supervisor can move between Evaluations, CFOs, Goals, and Approvals. The CFOs tab is the center of this guide, but it lives inside a broader people-management workflow.

3. Working the left side: month, scope, and employee selection

Before a supervisor writes or updates a CFO, the page has to be pointed at the right context. The month filter sets the working period. The scope filter determines which team population is visible; in the example shown, the scope is set to My Direct Reports. The member search makes it easier to find the correct person in larger teams.

Once an employee is selected on the left, the entire center and right side of the page updates around that person. The employee header in the middle shows the name and current count of CFOs for the selected period. From that point forward, every objective you create or edit is clearly associated with that person. This is one of the quiet strengths of the page: it avoids the ambiguity that happens when objectives are discussed in a general meeting but never anchored to an owner.

The supervisor should get into the habit of checking the selected month, the selected scope, and the selected employee before making changes. That simple discipline prevents the most common operational mistakes: updating the wrong cycle, publishing to the wrong person, or reviewing progress without noticing that you are looking at the wrong period.

4. Creating a new CFO

The New CFO form captures the objective, success definition, dates, current status, and strategic linkage before the assignment goes live.

When the supervisor clicks New CFO, the form opens in the main workspace instead of taking the user to a separate page. That is a deliberate design choice. It allows the supervisor to create the objective while still seeing the employee list on the left and the historical summary on the right. In other words, the assignment is created in context, not in isolation.

A good CFO starts with a crisp name and a clear description. The name should read like a real objective, not a vague theme. The description should explain what the person is trying to improve or produce. Success Criteria is where the supervisor makes the work measurable enough to review later. If the objective is connected to a larger strategic objective, the Linked Strategic CFO field ties the individual assignment back to that higher-level work.

Linked Strategic CFO	A roll-up link to a broader strategic objective.	Use this when the individual CFO is part of a larger leadership priority so work stays connected from strategy to execution.

In practical terms, this means the CFO form is where the supervisor converts an Impact Charter into an assignment the employee can actually carry. If the Impact Charter says the business needs better pipeline discipline, the CFO should not say only "improve sales." It should become something more concrete, such as Improve CAC Trend or Qualified Pipeline Coverage, with dates and success criteria that make the work reviewable.

5. Draft, Ready, and Published: how the stage progression works

The stage progression keeps the objective from jumping straight from idea to live assignment without supervisory discipline.

Every CFO moves through a visible stage progression at the top of the objective card: Draft, Ready, and Published. This is not cosmetic. It gives the supervisor a simple operating discipline for how an objective becomes real work.

This staged approach protects quality. Without it, supervisors are tempted to either publish too early or wait too long because there is no clear middle step. Ready solves that. It gives the supervisor room to have the conversation, refine the wording, and confirm expectations before the objective becomes live.

6. Managing an active CFO in the center workspace

An active CFO keeps the objective definition, progress, dates, linkage, and notes together on one working card.

Once a CFO is active, the center workspace becomes the operating record for that objective. This is where the supervisor and the management rhythm come together. The card keeps the description, success criteria, status, progress percentage, dates, and linked strategic CFO visible in one place. That matters because it prevents the objective from drifting into separate spreadsheets, chat threads, or half-remembered meeting notes.

Status and progress percentage work together. Status gives a categorical read on the work, while the progress bar and numeric percentage show how far the objective has moved. These should be kept in sync. An objective marked In Progress but sitting at nearly zero percent for too long is a signal that something is off. Likewise, a high progress percentage with vague success criteria tells you that the objective was not defined tightly enough in the first place.

The copy icon at the top of the card is also useful operationally. If a similar objective needs to be assigned elsewhere, the supervisor can reuse a strong template instead of rewriting it from scratch. This helps preserve consistency across a team when the same kind of work needs to be carried by more than one person.

7. Notes are where the review rhythm becomes visible

The Notes area is one of the most important parts of the page. This is where the supervisor captures the running conversation around the objective: progress updates, review comments, issues that surfaced during evaluation, and what changed from one review period to the next. In the example shown, the notes record monthly evaluation-review context and even show progress moving from one percentage range to another.

Used well, notes prevent the common leadership problem of repeated discussion without memory. Instead of asking the same question every month, the supervisor can see what was said in January, what changed in February, and what still needs attention now. This creates continuity. It also makes coaching more concrete because the feedback is attached to the objective itself, not buried somewhere else.

The practical rule is simple: if a review conversation changes direction, changes expectations, identifies a blocker, or changes progress, write it in notes. That turns the CFO from a static assignment into a living supervisory record.

8. The Historical Summary is the supervisor's decision panel

The right rail gives the supervisor immediate context on performance, capacity, workload, overdue items, and tracked weaknesses while the CFO is being created or reviewed.

The Historical Summary on the right side is what makes this page much smarter than a simple objective form. While the supervisor is creating or editing a CFO in the middle of the page, the right rail keeps the employee's broader context visible. That means assignment decisions are made with live context in view, not based on memory.

The Historical View selector lets the supervisor choose the lookback window, shown here as Trailing 12 Months. Below that, the Performance section surfaces the employee's averages. Trait Average can be expanded into the underlying traits, including Experience, Talent, Work Ethic, Teamwork, Modesty, Focus, and Attitude. Resource Average shows the overall resource picture. Capacity Average shows whether the employee's workload is healthy enough to absorb more work.

This is exactly why the Historical Summary belongs on the same screen. A supervisor may be tempted to write another objective because the project is important, but the right rail may show that the employee already has overdue CFOs, unstarted goals, tracked weaknesses, or capacity pressure. That is a different decision. The page is helping the supervisor assign intelligently, not just assign quickly.

The Workload area summarizes the number of CFOs, Goals, Outstanding items, and Charters tied to the employee. The tracked weaknesses row keeps unresolved evaluation issues visible. The Evaluation section below it lets the supervisor step back into prior review periods, which is useful when writing success criteria or checking whether the current objective actually addresses the pattern the evaluations uncovered.

9. Outstanding detail: how to see what is already slipping

Clicking into Outstanding gives the supervisor a focused view of the employee's open pressure points. In the example, that detail view breaks work into overdue CFOs, unstarted goals, and tracked weaknesses. Each overdue CFO shows a progress bar and a due date. That immediately tells the supervisor whether the problem is simply lateness, lack of motion, or an objective that has stayed active without enough traction.

This view is especially important before publishing another CFO. If the employee already has several overdue objectives, an unstarted goal, and tracked weaknesses still in progress, that should shape the conversation. Sometimes the right next move is still to publish another CFO because it is truly critical. But often the smarter move is to clarify, combine, or sequence work rather than adding more to an already overloaded list.

10. Related views in the same Team CFOs workspace

The CFOs tab is not standing alone. In the same Team CFOs workspace, supervisors can move to Goals and Approvals, and across the higher-level navigation they can move to Evaluations, Team Dashboard, and Capacity Dashboard. This matters because CFOs are part of a broader operating rhythm, not a disconnected feature.

In practice, that means a supervisor can move from diagnosis to assignment without losing context. Evaluations show how the employee has been assessed. Capacity Dashboard helps confirm whether workload is healthy. Team Dashboard keeps the broader supervisory picture in view. Goals and Approvals help connect the assigned objectives to follow-through and supervisory review. CFOs sit in the middle of that rhythm as the owned, trackable work layer.

11. How to use the page well
